The battery on this flashlight is only 5000mAh, so even though you CAN use it to charge your phone, the battery on your phone is a much higher amperage, so I would personally recommend against doing that. I don't know if there's a protection circuit on the battery, but I always use my goalzero Venture70 to charge it, just in case. It's held on there as part of the O-ring and it doesn't look like it's on there very good. I must warn everyone, be SUPREMELY careful with the cover of the charging port, even more so than any other USBchargeable illumination tool. This would be a very handy light if you're behind a group of friends that also need to see where they're stepping. (The redline blast RC is NOT the redline blast, don't get them confused, someone in a comment section before got them confused) Much better than the the 30 seconds that it took the Redline BlastRC to get to 3200 lumens.
